With the digital photography equipment technology changing so fast, providing more and more sophisticated choices within the DSLR, pro-sumers, compacts and camera phones, it's easy to get sucked into the maze of possibilities.
But I feel that up to a certain saturation point, and any 'improvement' are just ways to get people to buy new cameras with no obvious leap in technology.
Here are the laundry list that I feel that is important in a camera.
1) Ability to capture vibrant colors, with good auto-white balance and easy access to WB setting. Camera phones colors are always washed out.
2) Works well in low light, preferably with f2.0 and below.
3) Wide angle support with non-visible distortion.
4) Bounce flash. When will compact camera have these?
5) Blue-tooth to allow easy wireless transfer of photos.
6) Grid-lines, those 3:2 guides.
7) Simple menus, and yet with support for Aperture priority and Shutter priority mode.
8) Accurate exposures - I should put this in the top of my list.
9) Small and fits in pocket.
10) Fast shutter speed.
